Karen Bogardus joins the Binghamton Philharmonic as Principal Flute in the fall of 2015.  Ms Bogardus earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory and Master of Music degree form Northwestern University.  A prize winner of the Myrna Brown, the Artists International Competitions and Grand Prize Winner as a member of the Emerald Trio of the Continuo Arts Foundation Competition, Ms. Bogardus has appeared as soloist with the several orchestras in both the US and Mexico.

 In 1986 before moving to Mexico Ms. Bogardus received her first orchestral contract with the Orquestra Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal.  During the eight years Ms. Bogardus lived in Mexico she held Principal Flute positions with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Aguascalientes, Sinfonietta del ISSSTE and Filarmonica de Queretaro, She held the Assisant Principal Flute positions with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Jaliisco.

 In New York, Ms Bogardus has performed with the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, The Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey, American Symphony Orchestra, Westfield Symphony Orchestra, Greenwich Symphony, New York Philomusica Chamber Ensemble, Teatro Grattacielo, Albany Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, The Dorian Quintet and the Emerald Trio. Currently, she is principal flutist in several Opera Companies in the New York City area.  She has performed chamber works in the Carnegie Hall Making Music series.  A regular on Broadway, Ms. Bogardus performs in the orchestras of Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked. In 2006 and 2007, she was flutist in the Phantom of the Opera National tour.  Ms. Bogardus can be heard on numerous TV and film sound tracks.
