A classical, jazz and improvisational cellist and cello teacher based in Ithaca, NY since 1985, Chris White has performed and taught around the U.S., as well as in Canada, Europe and North Africa. He has several solo recordings and has played on numerous recordings of other artists including Jody Kessler, Joe Crookston, Scott Adams, Javier Ruibal and others. White has been a member of the Binghamton (NY) Philharmonic since 1997 and frequently free-lances with chamber and jazz groups. An active private cello teacher, Chris is also on the faculty of The Community School of Music & Arts in Ithaca. He also gives workshops on improvisation for cellists.
Chris a jazz book and CD series for string instruments called Jazz Cello, Jazz Viola and Jazz Violin. His CD First Principles features his own compositions as well as originals by the pianist Eric Hangen. The group, called Chris White and the Cayuga Jazz Ensemble, consists of cello, trumpet, kora, piano, bass and drums.

Cloud Chamber Orchestra (Chris White, Peter Dodge and Robby Aceto) performs live improvised sound tracks with a variety of important silent films. Their CD “GRASS” (June 2012) captures a live performance for the silent film by the same name.
White holds a BM in Performance (cello) from the University of New Hampshire (1979) and a Masters in Music Performance (cello) from Ithaca College (1987).
