Patricia O’Connell plays Second Horn in the Binghamton Philharmonic, a position she has held since fall 1978. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a Performers Certificate from Crane School of Music and earned a Masters Degree in Performance French Horn from Ithaca College. Her teachers include John Covert, Dr. Perry Yaw, Roy Schaberg, Paul Brown, and Guy Kinney.
In addition to performing in the Binghamton Philharmonic, Mrs. O’Connell is Principal Horn of Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra, Downtown Singers Orchestra, both in Binghamton, and plays Third Horn in the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra in Cooperstown. She performs with “Fair Winds” Woodwind Quintet and “Brass Menagerie,” a Brass Quintet. Mrs. O’Connell has played musicals in pit orchestras for Ti-Ahwaga Players, Elmira Little Theatre and Watertown Lyric Theatre, in addition to many area high school productions. As a soloist, Mrs. O’Connell performs in area churches, has been a featured soloist with the Binghamton Community Orchestra, and will be presenting a recital with Organist Roberta Rowland-Raybold at The Old Palatine Church in Nelliston, NY, in August 2015.
Retiring in 2010 from a career as a Band Director, Mrs. O’Connell now studies Pipe Organ and is a substitute Church musician. She continues to substitute and teach individual instrumental music lessons.
Mrs. O’Connell is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who of America’s Women. She is a member of Local 380 AFM, NYSUT and the Binghamton Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She is married to professional photographer, William O’Connell. Together they have four children and nine and one third grandchildren to keep them busy in Owego, New York.
