Binghamton Philharmonic and Union Reach New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Binghamton, NY – The Binghamton Philharmonic and Binghamton Local 380, American Federation of Musicians announced to the media that they have reached a new two year agreement, which has been ratified by musicians of the Binghamton Philharmonic. The two-year deal includes a wage freeze, a significant reduction in mileage for all musicians and the inclusion of housing for musicians who reside over 100 miles away. The agreement also includes a provision whereby labor and management will meet regularly to continue to keep the doors of communication open as the Board carries forth the aggressive three-year plan it shared with the Union team.

The Binghamton Philharmonic and the Musicians’ Union are dedicated to bringing live orchestral music to the Southern Tier community.

“We fully expect the Philharmonic Board to devote itself to one of its primary roles: providing the resources so that this fine orchestra can continue and musicians can work for a fair and competitive wage and cover their expenses,” said Sarah Chandler, President of Local 380 and Acting Principal Clarinet in the orchestra. “Our musicians want to continue bringing beautiful and compelling music to the community.”

“After many hours of compromise and discussion, we are grateful to have reached an agreement with the musicians’ union,” said Maureen Wilson, the President of the Binghamton Philharmonic. “Over the last several weeks, both sides recognized that we share the same goal- a professional orchestra in the Southern Tier that has long term financial stability. The Binghamton Philharmonic is looking forward toward its next 60 years.”

The Binghamton Philharmonic’s 2015-2016 season will resume with Fantastique Halloween on October 31, 2015 at 7:30pm. For more information on the concert or to purchase tickets, please call the Binghamton Philharmonic Box Office at 607.723.3931
